Short read: A Magical Mystery Tour of  Beatles’ London

“Oh, I believe in yesterday” read: Guided by the pied piper of Beatlemania, The Magical Mystery Tour is waiting to take you away…

“A splendid time is guaranteed for all” read: So let me introduce you to the one and only Richard P. (“his personal knowledge adds an element of credibility that is unavailable elsewhere” USA Today). His Magical Mystery Tour is a chance to “Imagine” Beatlemania and the Swinging 60s. Highlights include their “Apple offices” (where they played the famous rooftop session); the legendary Abbey Road Studios; Paul McCartney’s headquarters; the tiny gallery where John Lennon first set eyes on Yoko Ono (that fateful encounter that changed everything); the world-famous zebra crosswalk (you’ll walk the walk – a moment that’s a keeper, so be sure to bring your camera). The utterly assured,* completely in command of topic and terrain – let alone well connected – Richard P. unerringly takes us back… Recaptures the era when London was the cultural capital of the world and the Fab Four were its rulers. Places I remember all my life… all we want is you, it’ll be just like you want it to…  *Tempted to say wraith-like – the 6th Beatle?

BEATLES MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR – THE PRACTICALS

Meet Richard P. just outside exit 1 of Tottenham Court Road Tube Stop.

If arriving on the Elizabeth line follow the signs for the Tottenham Court Road Exit and then take Exit 1, Oxford Street South

N.B. we make a short Tube journey to Abbey Road so getting a Day Travel Card or an Oyster Card – “a ticket to ride” – is a good idea. The walk ends at the Abbey Road Studio, a three-minute walk from St. John’s Wood Tube Stop.

LONDON WALKS REVIEWS

“RICHARD Porter is the smartest man in Britain – at least when it comes to The Beatles. In reality, considering the Sixties pop scene was a hotbed of sex and psychedelic drugs, he probably knows more about The Beatles than the remaining members of the Fab Four can remember themselves.” Brian Crisp National Travel Editor, Escape

“When it comes to possessing a thorough knowledge of the movements of the Beatles, there are few who can surpass Richard Porter. Dubbed the “Beatles Brain of Britain,” his personal kinship with John, Paul, George and Ringo makes the London tours he conducts for London Walks some of the most popular in the city. After more than 20 years and guiding around 150,000 visitors, Richard’s lead is the one to heed. His personal knowledge adds an element of credibility that is unavailable elsewhere.”  USA Today

“The walls in front of the famous studios are smeared with a million cliches, long-standing graffiti proclaiming the fans’ undying love. Here, several years ago, Paul McCartney appeared while Porter was doing his tour. Springing cheerily from his limo, Paul consorted with the fans before vamoosing to cut his album. Porter had captured the moment. Snap! We are agog. For there it is: Paul looking cherubic. As does Porter, standing before us now, irrepressible, and so likeable that you wish you could set him to music. Will lightning strike twice? Will a Beatle casually materialise? But Porter is talking again, more facts, more memorabilia. Yeah, yeah, yeah.” Traveller

“London Walks puts you into the hands of an expert on the particular area and topic of a tour…”  The New York Times

“The original and best – there are several companies offering walking tours of London but London Walks (London’s oldest) is easily the pick of the bunch”   London, Cadogan Guide

“A splendid time is guaranteed for all”  Toronto Globe and Mail

Best Beatles Walk  “If you are a Beatles fan then you will love touring London with Richard P! My family had the pleasure of joining Richard on the Beatles “In My Life” walk and enjoyed every moment. The tour is very informative and hits many great spots such as John and Yoko’s home, film locations for Beatles movies, and ends at Abbey Road. Richard is knowledgeable, projects well so you can hear every word he says, and takes great care to make sure the tour stays safe and together when walking down the streets of London. I want to go back to London just to experience more tours with this company!”  Pkid71 Saginaw, Michigan[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

  1. Bruce Carter

Outstanding! Loved it! Richard Porter is the 5th Beatle!

  2. Hilary (USA)

This was one of the best (if not THE BEST) tours we did in London. The guide has over 30 years of experience doing this tour and has encyclopedic knowledge of the Beatles- and has even written books on them and has dozens of pictures of himself with the members of the band! If you do a tour in London, keep this near the top of your to-do list. Afterward, check out his Beatles store near Baker Street. (And please— bring a card with you for the underground! Despite repeatedly asking everyone if they had one, there was still a couple of people without one and it delayed us significantly!)

  3. Steve

Without out a doubt, the best tour of any kind in London. I have been to London many times including as a kid in 1968. Richard Porter takes you back to a time that some will never forget and for those who weren’t around, they get to live it through his wonderful stories, anecdotes , pictures and sites. It is a MUST DO in London. The Beatle’s are not only the most prolific band of all time but their place in history goes far beyond that of just their music. Do it! You will love it! It will be a lifetime memory!

  4. Beth Melix-Stanciu

Adam is a terrific guide and the Beatles Magical Mystery tour is well worth it!

  5. Elliot Foo

The tour was wonderful. I am a die hard Beatles fan and I thought I knew everything there is to know about the Fab 4 but the Tour covered some really cool new stories. I really felt like I saw Beatles sites in London I would never have found myself. Well worth the money and Adam was 5 star. He made everyone feel at home. Cheers and well done.

  6. Anna Karlsson

The tour was entertaining, heartwarming and interesting – for us adults as well as for my 15-year-old daughter. Adam was an excellent guide and even though the group was quite large it felt personal. We are very satisfied and will definitely join another walking tour with the same company next time in London.

  7. wendy

excellent walking tour with Beatles expert Richard. Fabulous knowledge and tour leader. glad english is my first language tho as he’s got so much knowledge to share, he talks quite quickly at times.

  8. Anne & Ken Stagg

What a marvelous time learning about the Beatles road to fame (and fortune). Adam was a delight and able to readily answer any questions and give anecdotes and context to where the Beatles performed. Time flew by, a truly wonderful Walk.

  9. Anthony Biglieri

Richard is brilliant and would highly recommend the tour – we even got to be featured in Ringo Starr birthday wishes on Facebook – just added a little to a more to an already amazing tour. Thank you Richard

  10. Peter Nosko

There is only one person who might be able to lead a Beatles Tour that would rival those conducted by Richard Porter but I don’t think Paul McCartney is offering Beatles tours (yet).
