What’s not to like? Grand Tour. Stunning overview. St. Paul’s to the Tower of London. Can’t do better than that for a jumping-off point and a final destination. But – whisper it – the getting there is the real fun, because along the way we explore twisty little alleyways and piquant nooks and crannies and a secret stretch of shoreline.

Seeing this London is like hearing music you never would have known to listen for. N.B. the walk ends at the Tower of London, right next to Tower Hill Tube.

LONDON WALKS PRIVATE WALKS

If you can’t make the regularly scheduled, just-turn-up, public Old London walk do think about booking one as a private tour. If you go private you can have Old London – or any other London Walk – on a day and at a time that suits your convenience. We’ll tailor it to your requirements. And – always  – we go to great lengths to make sure the guide-walker(s) “fit” is well-nigh perfect. Ring Fiona or Peter or Niamh or Mary on 020 7624 3978 or email us at  [email protected] and we’ll set it up and make it happen for you. A private London Walk is good value for an individual or couple and sensational value for a group. And the clincher: a private London Walk makes an ideal group or educational or birthday party or office (team-building) or club outing.

    10/01/24 Old London with Laura.
It was easy to locate Laura, fees were collected efficiently and prompt departure. Well planned route through the hidden City, small alley ways and squares, magnificent buildings, old and new. Stopping points gave splendid views of the Cities’ historical “layers”. Information imparted in a digestible
way, by a passionate and knowledgeable guide, Laura. Plenty of advice re museums, pubs/restaurants to visit later. Great walk, thank you.

  2. Ben

Superb tour and comprehensive history of the wonderful London underground, our guide Fiona was friendly, so knowledge and so passionate about the topic, and led the tour at a relaxed pace with no rush! Highly recommended. I thought I knew most of the quirks and secret sof the underground but we left with a whole new insight. Go do this tour!

  3. Paul Cammiade

Just spent a fascinating afternoon with Simon on the Old London Walk. I have seen bits of London that I didn’t know existed and even the bits I did explained in an interesting way giving new insight. First class.

We have taken many London Walks and Old London is now one of my Top 3 and my husband’s absolute favourite. Simon is definitely the BEST guide we have had. Not only is he informative and full of anecdotes and arcane knowledge, he is lively and friendly. A bonus for me, as I am hard of hearing, is that Simon was always clear and unobtrusively paid attention to how he directed his voice so every one in the group could hear every word he said. Not an easy feat. Simon showed us a world hidden in plain sight from the regular buses and shoppers along Cheapside. I highly recommend this tour

  5. Colin ENGEL

An excellent walk. Simon was engaging, informed, funny, and well organised.

  6. Julie Bright

We went on this walk with Simon last Wednesday. He had had to step in at short notice, but you wouldn’t have known it. He described himself as ‘high octane’, which he certainly was, as he sped us through as much of the territory as he could in the time we had, and filled every moment with fascinating and vivid detail, never missing a beat. We had done this walk before with another guide, but nothing was repetitive with Simon, as he filled our time with fresh insights. He managed to balance packing in as much as possible with patience with us old fogeys who are not as quick on the draw as we used to be. Well done Simon! We would highly recommend and will look out for walks with Simon another time! 🙂

  7. Andy

Learned a lot about old London, Simon did a great job and really knew his history. We covered a lot of ground and really enjoyed the walk.

  8. Lizzie

Gripping tales told by Simon with humour and panache just where they happened.

  9. Stephen Spiceley

Laura took us on a fascinating tour of the square mile, painting vivid pictures of ancient and not so ancient London with her energetic, charismatic and incredibly knowledgeable commentary as she guided us around amazing hidden gems and well known landmarks. What a fantastic guide she is, aided by a well planned and extremely interesting walk. Thank you Laura for being brilliant. Highly recommended.

  10. Stephanie

Great walk despite the howling wind and random downpours, Anne was an informative, enthusiastic and entertaining guide who delivered a great walk with a well balanced mix of facts, anecdotes, literary references and historical references. Would gladly do another tour with her.
