N.B. this is one of four photography tours professional photographer David G. leads. The other two are the Classic London Photography Tour and London at its most Colourful – the Notting Hill Gate Photography Tour. And come Christmas Season he conducts a Christmas Lights Photography Tour.
To (slightly) paraphrase Shakespeare:
The weary sun hath made a golden set,
And by the bright track of his fiery car
Gives token of rich photographic pickings…
London looks particularly special at night time with its lights a-twinkling. Learn how to capture it perfectly with our London at Night Photography Tour. Part photography course, part London walking tour – there’s no going wrong with that combination.
Guided by professional photographer David, this is a hands-on, location, location, location night photography course. If you’re a beginner it’s the best possible introduction to night photography, which is after all, a very different cup of tea from its daylight cousin. And if you’ve already got some know how it’ll build on what you already know – sharpen your night photography skills. And it’s two birds with one stone because it also, by definition, two to three hours of great evening (golden hour) and night-time London sightseeing. What’s not to like about discovering, seeing – and capturing – famous and lesser-known but extremely photogenic views of London. In short, London at its best. You’ll get your share of expert, individual attention on what after all is both a craft and and an art: photographing London cityscapes (and details) when London, light-wise, is at its most dramatic and arresting. Which is by way of stressing, YES!, you’ll put what you’re learning into practice with stops at various iconic points along the River Thames, such as London Eye, The Shard, St Paul’s Cathedral, London Bridge, Millennium Bridge and Tower Bridge.
David will show you some of the rich, hidden particulars along the South Bank that lend themselves perfectly to creative night photography with light trails and such like. You’ll discover the best vantage points for photos of landmarks along the River Thames like the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Bridge and the London Eye.
This informative tour will help you to gain new photography skills. David can answer all your photography FAQs, from shutter speed to camera settings, light trails to long exposure and all sorts in between. Plus, he’ll share interesting tales about the locations you see along the way.
On arrival at the Westminster tube meeting point, outside Caffe Nero, you’ll meet up with your guide and tutor and fellow tour members.
After a short introductory talk about camera basics, especially at night time, you’ll embark on a delightful journey through the City of London after sunset, where the cityscape transforms into a dazzling spectacle. As streetlights paint the skyline, iconic landmarks like the London Eye, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and Tower Bridge become beacons of nighttime elegance.
As night falls, add a touch of magic with Tower Bridge as a focal point, capturing the vibrant light trails of red double-decker buses passing through, heading into the bridge. The illuminated silhouette of St. Paul’s Cathedral completes the scene, making the city at night a visual symphony along the Thames, inviting you to paint the town with your lens!
Explore the vibrant energy of the streets, weaving through the glowing lines of towering structures. The tour takes around 3 hours and ends at Tower Bridge.
Whether you’re a beginner or more experienced at photography, you’ll gain insights and tips from our experienced photography tour guide. The tour’s suitable for users of all types of digital cameras – DSLRs, point & shoot and smartphones. We’ll also advise you on the best apps for smartphones too.
N.B. Between the photo locations (London Eye, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and Tower Bridge) we will commute using the overground tube (district/circle line), to reduce the time for walking and have the extra time for photography.
You’ll notice the start times of London at Night Photography Tour vary. Professional photographer David, who guides our Photography Tours, adjusts the start times as the year advances so we always catch “the golden hour.” Meet David just outside exit 4 of Westminster tube station (opposite Big Ben). This is an approximately 3 hour tour. It costs £49.
N.B. Photography tours have to be booked because it’s a small group with only a certain number of places available on this walking tour, usually up to 12, though we can extend to 15.
David G is the ideal guide for this specialist walking tour. He’s a huge photography enthusiast and the director of photography at Sky Blue Creatives. As a professional photographer, he knows his way around a camera and the streets of London. It’s a win-win.
David wants to share his passion and help others in their journey to photography.
He also hosts our classic photography tour and the seasonal special, Christmas lights photography tour in Central London.
Diane Kerr –
Last week we went on an evening walk with David. Just letting you know that it was excellent. David spent time explaining the basics of photography and then jumped into having us take fun, exciting, photos of the Eye.
He showed us how to get the Eye with movement when it was closed and some very interesting angles of St. Pauls. Tower Bridge photos were taken on the bridge so I never would have even considered that.
I highly recommend his tours to anyone wanting to gert some fun, exciting, new shots of landmarks. The things he taught us will be applicable anywhere so TAKE the CLASS.
Silvia –
For our London trip we pre-booked this tour as my partner is a vivid photographer – as stated on the website all walks are 15 GBP pP, and the group has a limit of 12 people. At the meeting point we learned that the price is 45 GBP and the group was made up of 18 people.
Regarding the price I have read then again the description of the tour and in the lengthy text it was stated somewhere that the price is 45 GBP – sorry to say that is rather misleading and hidden. Also the size of the group was in my opinion too big – further more there was no information that travel by tube was done which adds to the costs of the walk.
Overall we got some nice viewpoints to take great pictures of the London eye, St. Paul’s and Tower Bridge but I think due to the size the “learning” side to the tour was rather difficult.
