We’ll deck the streets of London with balls of jolly. Scrooge and Marley and the Cratchits… they’re all here. This was where Dickens’s imagination took wing and where the characters did their thing. And as we make their acquaintance we’ll spice things with warming seasonal stories of turkeys and boars’ heads, Christmas puds, mince pies and pantomimes; cards, crackers, Christmas trees and mistletoe.
Let alone the bells that rang out on Christmas morning to wake Scrooge up, a much-changed character.

And to deliver such a wonderful talk along the way was tremendous. The references to “A Christmas Carol” were interwoven with historical references that gave added insight to the times. I’d go on any walk with Richard knowing that I’d be thoroughly entertained and enlightened.

He had a twinkle in his eye and a spring in his step as he told the tale of Dickens’ The Christmas Carol with added embellishment and interesting details. I was lucky enough to participate in Richard Burnip’s ‘Charles Dickens Christmas Carol & Seasonal Traditions walk’ today, and it was just brilliant!
Richard took us to St Olave’s Church, Leadenhall Market, Corn Hill and Cheapside and mentioned various possibilities for where Scrooge might have lived and worked.
It was filled with history and amazing views of old alleyways and their architecture.
Richard’s fantastic knowledge, good humour and incredible speaking voice made the walk illuminating and memorable.
