Short read: “a thrilling discovery – the real deal”
Long read: What a delightful goulash this walk is. It gets you into streets that you’d never find off your own bat – streets that look like an old movie shot through a vaselined lens. Into a neighbourhood that precious few Londoners have seen, let alone visitors. There’s no better sense of place in London – and no finer architectural effect. Yellow brick, perfectly preserved, all unselfconscious self-respect, real Cockney – unaltered Dickensian London. And the miracle is that it’s still there, embedded in central London – screwed into the big city. That discovery alone makes this one of those bewitching “somewhere else” London Walks. And getting there is a bit of all right too – because there’s a dramatic river crossing, a stroll along the Thames, the world’s foremost arts complex, London’s best-loved old theatre, a real London street market (instead of a tourist trap), a stunning bird’s eye view of the capital (and there’s a lift, so we won’t have to climb hundreds of stairs!), and buckets of character. Guided by Stephanie.
The meeting point is just outside the river exit of Embankment Tube Stop. N.B the ‘Somewhere Else’ London Walk ends close to WaterlooTube Stop.
“Even jaded Londoners find these London Walks a source of astonishing gems of information about the city in which they live.” Daily Mail, Top London Treats
“the unfailingly fascinating London Walks… If you can’t find one [of their tours] that captures your fancy, maybe you really are tired of life.” San Francisco Chronicle
If you can’t make the regularly scheduled, just-turn-up, public ‘Somewhere Else’ London Walk,* why not think about booking it as a private walk? If you go private you can have the ‘Somewhere Else’ London Walk – or any other London Walk – on a day and at a time that suits your convenience. We’ll tailor it to your requirements. And – always with private walks – we go to great lengths to make sure the guide-walker(s) “fit” is well-nigh perfect. Ring Fiona or Noel on 020 7624 3978 or email us at [email protected]lks.com and we’ll set it up and make it happen for you.
If you’re looking for a very special (and unusual) unusual gift – be it a Christmas or anniversary or birthday present for a friend or family member – well, why not consider the gift of a private London Walk with a world-class guide. Merchandise schmerchandise (gift wrapped or not) – but giving someone an experience, now that’s special. Memories make us rich.
