Short read: delightful hotch-potch
Long read: Graceful old square. Courtyards. Passages burrowing this way and that. Everything humming with life: shutters going up, flower boxes being watered, freshly baked bread carried into restaurants, waiters in white aprons serving Turkish coffee at pavement cafes, Chinatown bestirring itself, the colour and clamour of Berwick Street market (if it weren’t for the Cockney accents you’d think you were in a Moroccan souk). What a tonic! And that’s all by way of saying, what? Just this: the brush that painted London sober, sombre and genteel sure as hell missed Soho. Thank goodness. Guided by Adam, Peter or Richard III.
The Soho Saunter takes place at 10.15 am on Fridays (except some dates in December and January). Meet Adam or Peter or Richard III just outside exit 1 (by Wyndham’s Theatre) of Leicester Square Tube. N.B. the walk ends at the London Palladium Theatre, a two-minute walk from Oxford Circus Tube Station.

If you can’t make one of the regularly scheduled, just-turn-up, public Soho walks do think about booking one as a private tour. If you go private you can have the Soho Saunter Walk – or any other London Walk – on a day and at a time that suits your convenience. We’ll tailor it to your requirements. And – always with private London Walks and tours – we go to great lengths to make sure the guide-walker(s) “fit” is well-nigh perfect. Ring Fiona or Peter or Niamh or Mary on 020 7624 3978 or email us at [email protected] and we’ll set it up and make it happen for you. A private London Walk – they’re good value for an individual or couple and sensational value for a group – makes an ideal group or educational or birthday party or office (team-building) or club outing.
A private London Walk makes a very special (and unusual) gift – be it a birthday or anniversary or Christmas present or whatever. Merchandise schmerchandise (gift wrapped or not) – but giving someone an experience, now that’s special. Memories make us rich.
In the argot of London cabbies the twelve streets that thread through Soho are known as “the dirty dozen.”
David Hart –
(Review of Oct 4th Walk) A really excellent Soho Saunter with the wonderful Claire. I thought I knew London fairly well, but Claire took us to places I had never seen before and places I had seen but had no idea of what had happened there. Never a dull moment with Claire, surely one of your top guides. I think I have been on 30-40 of your Walks, and this one was fascinating – up with the best. My daughter visiting from America so enjoyed the Walk and listening to Claire that she went the next day on Claire’s Notting Hill Walk.
Jacqueline –
Peter was a great guide to Soho! I’ve worked & played in the Soho area for a few decades – yet Peter had lots of info about Soho that I didn’t already know. Highly recommend!
Magda –
We really enjoyed the tour, Claire is a very knowledgeable guide and a great story teller. Totally recommended!
William –
Had a fascinating saunter around Soho yesterday with Peter expertly weaving stories and observations from across the centuries. I knew a few bits here and there but found out so much more and I hadn’t appreciated them all being a Soho story. He explained things and delivered it so well. Peter the Great!
Bruce Hislop –
Wonderfully educational and humorous tour, amazing to think I covered a lot of the same ground on a beatles tour. such a small area ,so many stories.
Mark –
Wonderful tour. Claire was excellent. You can’t say you have seen Soho if you just walk around on your own. Go on this tour. You will enjoy it.

Fiona Munroe –
Well that was good fun and informative , a great walk through an area I thought I knew well , thankfully Peter filled in all the information that I was missing , in a very jovial way !
Debra –
Peter was wonderful! What stories! I learned so much. Coincidentally I had walked some of the same streets the previous day, but, oh how much I had breezed past, missing so much texture. I’m very grateful to have had this opportunity to enrich my experience and knowledge of SOHO! Can’t wait to do another one.

Soho Walk.
Adam was an utterly charming Scotsman who kept us thoroughly entertained on the delights of Soho for two hours. Very knowledgable, friendly and amusing in many of his descriptions. Highly recommended.
