Chelsea Buns & Georgian Viagra

London Calling.

London Walks connecting.

This is London. This is London Walks. Streets Ahead.

Story time, history time.

And coming up shortly, a tasty little morsel from star London Walks guide Ann, former BBC journalist and mistress of the delectable byways of London food history.

Ann’s original Foodies’ London walk – Epicurean, Gourmets’ Foodies’ London – returns on June 20th. It’s one of a quartet of special food history walks she’s created for London Walks. And no, these aren’t tasting tours. They’re something much rarer and, in the long run, much more satisfying: explorations of London’s food past.

Three Michelin stars is the highest Michelin rating a restaurant can receive. It’s restaurant knighthood. A three-star Michelin rating translates into Exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey.

Well, if this walk were a restaurant, it’d be a three-star Michelin dining experience.

In the words of reviewer Julie Andreshak, “Ann’s ability to tell the story of food in London through the ages is not to be missed.”

And whet your appetite walk that it is, Ann makes fabulous recommendations for apres walk nosh.

Anyway, this latest little helping ranges across Georgian London: Georgian gingerbread – there’s an actual surviving piece of it in the London Museum – Georgian Viagra, Chelsea buns, and what old court records can tell us about the appetites and eating habits of long-ago Londoners.

In short, food for thought.

Over to Ann.
