A brace of medical tours…
Another super-star guide. (Nobody’s got guides like London Walks, if we say so ourself.) This podcast is Rick talking – in blank verse no less – about his two Medical London tours.
Rick Jones is a Blue Badge Guide who for most of his working life was a journalist. As such he was for ten years chief music critic for the Evening Standard and he remains Secretary of the Critics Circle (founded 1913). He developed a form of costume journalism in which he reconstructed journeys, mostly walks, by famous individuals in costume. As JS Bach he walked across Germany, as Felix Mendelssohn he hiked across the Highlands of Scotland, as Edward Elgar he cycled across the Malvern Hills and as Shakespeare’s clown Will Kemp he danced across East Anglia. It was these experiences which gave him a taste for walking tours and the tales to be told from them.

Are there any medical/surgical/“diagnostic” tours of say the National Gallery or Royal Academy where an art-loving medic (or vice versa) takes one around the artworks highlighting medical conditions being deliberately or incidentally portrayed? And if not could such a walk be considered? I am sure I am
not alone in having a morbid curiosity!
