Friday Night at the Museum – London Walks Style

The above’s a link to a detailed podcast about this one – what it’s like, what you get, why it’s a good choice. Prefer reading to listening? There’s a script to go with it.  And here’s another bite at the After Hours at the BM cherry.

And don’t just take it from us. Here’s the most review “Marc was an incredible guide. He did a great job bouncing between time periods. I liked that we saw the famous pieces, but I appreciated the time he spent walking through the ancient European history, too. I had never been in that room and it was completely fascinating. Marc is a truly fantastic guide for such a daunting museum.” Sara, October 31, 2025

THE BRITISH MUSEUM FRIDAY LATE TOUR

Ahhhhh…The British Museum. The world’s cultural Aladdin’s Cave. Immerse yourself in 5,000 years of ancient history on this twilit, highlights tour of the most celebrated treasure house in the solar system.

There’s an uncanny quality to the glass-covered Great Court as dusk settles over London. Something magic and profound in the hush of the recently re-opened Round Reading Room haunted by the lucubrations of the great thinkers and authors who have researched and written there. G-7 for starters.

Founded in 1753, by a magpie of a collector, Sir Hans Sloane, the collection grew and grew with artefacts from every corner of the globe representing every culture and country that has ever existed….

It’s impressive, it’s overwhelming and it’s seen best – understood best – with an expert who will cherrypick the highlights for you as you travel back to Ancient Greece, Egypt, Assyria and points beyond.

As the evenings draw in these atmospheric new Friday Lates for London Walks are the perfect way to ease yourself into the Autumn!

For the British Museum Friday Night Late meet your guide outside Russell Square Underground Station at 6 pm. Our scene setter is the short stroll across historic, verdurous Russell Square to the group entrance of The British Museum.

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THE GUIDING

YOU DON’T SEE UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND

“WE DON’T TRULY SEE UNTIL WE UNDERSTAND”

John Constable said that.

And here’s another tasty backgrounder.

A London Calling podcast about the man who gave us the British Museum. And into the bargain, milk chocolate! It’s all of about 12 minutes long. Maybe listen to it while you’re on your way to meet up with the tour.

  1. Leslie Linton

We loved our tour with Fiona this evening at the British Museum. It was super informative and enjoyable and the evening visit meant fewer people were there – truly the best time of day to see the museum. Thank you for the many special insights that allowed us to “see” things in a way we will remember.

  2. Sharon Michalove

After countless virtual tours with Karen, I struck lucky and managed to an in-person trip to one of my favorite museums. Karen is excellent and the chance to see the the famous Reading Room not to be missed.

  3. Claire

If you want to see the best of the British Museum without the ‘museum fatigue,’ this is the way to do it. An unforgettable, five-star experience! We saw the world-famous exhibits like the Rosetta Stone and the Elgin Marbles, but we also discovered hidden gems that we definitely would have walked right past on our own. Fiona has a wonderful way of sharing history that is both insightful and genuinely enjoyable—it felt like an enriching conversation rather than a lecture and the balanced view of the collection development was spot on. A must do and the highlight of our London visit.

  4. Emily

Fiona gave an amazing tour, with just enough information to keep you engaged but not enough to bore a 12-year-old. Truly was amazed by Fiona’s breadth of knowledge.

  5. Sara

  6. Cristina

    Great tour – highly recommended!
Perfect for first-time visitors or those wanting a fresh perspective. Educational, engaging, and a great way to explore a museum that can otherwise feel overwhelming.

  7. Sandra

I did the small group tour of the British Museum with Karen on May 30, 2025. It was not my first time at the museum, but having that extra “Walks” insight in to the building, the history, and the exhibits – in an uncrowned setting – was really special. Thank you Karen for a wonderful tour!

  8. Vibeke Arentz

What a treat to be in the unsurpassed British Museum when the crowds were minimal, and to be able to go in through the back door – passing the lines. And to have Marc – who is so knowledgeable – guide us through the key sights and share with us so much more than we could ever have figured out on our own – Superb. We’ll take more London Walks Friday night Museum Experiences! Thank you London Walks!

  9. Elisabeth

We had a wonderful small tour of the British Museum during its extended hours. We were able to see many highlights (Rosetta Stone! Elgin Marbles! Very cool old clocks!). Fiona was a great host. Thanks!
