Green Park underground station, London (north exit, on the corner)
Guided by Peter G.
Short read: The Old Palace Quarter Pubby Perambulation.
London read: “I’d put this one in the top four or five of the 59 different walks I’m personally able to guide. It’s got everything I want in a walk.” (David). Okay, that’s the “opinion” – here’s what it’s based on. 1) It’s olde, vintage London. There are turnoffs – secret passageways – that take you into the 16th-century. And the 18th-century is par for the course. It’s so well preserved it’s a miracle the whole neighbourhood hasn’t been sold off to a museum! 2) So, as you’d expect, visually it’s very appealing. 3) It’s storied. It’s storied because it’s full of character, full of characters, and marinated in history. 4) It’s nooked and crannied. Why is that important? “Well maybe it’s just me, but I like to see things other people don’t get to see” (David again). 5) It’s got verray parfait pubs. 6) It’s got a superb guide. His name is Peter. N.B. the walk takes about two and a half hours and ends very near Piccadilly Circus Tube. And Green Park Tube is also nearby.
Secret St. James’s takes place at TBA on Saturday, TBA. Meet Peter outside the Green Park exit (by the fountain) of Green Park Tube.
If you can’t make the regularly scheduled, just-turn-up, public Secret St. James’s Walk do think about booking one as a private tour. If you go private you can have the Secret St. James’s Walk – or any other London Walk – on a day and at a time that suits your convenience. We’ll tailor it to your requirements. Ring Fiona or Noel or Mary on 020 7624 3978 or email us at [email protected] and we’ll set it up and make it happen for you. A private London Walk – they’re good value for an individual or couple and sensational value for a group – makes an ideal group or educational or birthday party or office (team-building) or club outing.
A private London Walk makes a fab present – be it a birthday or anniversary or get-to-know-your-new neighbourhood gift or Christmas present or whatever. Merchandise schmerchandise (gift wrapped or not) – but giving someone an experience, now that’s special. Memories make us rich.
“by far the most impressive series of walks that I have ever encountered are those offered by London Walks” Travel and Enjoy
“Even jaded Londoners find these London Walks a source of astonishing gems of information about the city in which they live.” Daily Mail, Top London Treats
