She was never meant to be Queen
Born on 21 April 1926, the future Queen Elizabeth II entered the world third in line to the throne, with no expectation that the crown would ever be hers. Ten years later, everything changed. Fifteen years after that, at just twenty-five, she acceded to the throne and began a reign that would last seventy years and define an era.
This centenary walk tells that extraordinary story through the places where it unfolded, guided by someone supremely at home with it.

Guide Claire is London Walks’ Royal Correspondent.
Claire’s on home ground here. London is in her DNA. Born and raised in the city, she knows it from the inside out and has that rare, unteachable quality every great guide needs: instinct. She knows what to linger over, what to glide past, and how to bring a story fully to life.
We visit the key locations of Elizabeth II’s life and legacy, from the great ceremonial settings where tradition, theatre and power met, to the smaller, more intimate places that reveal the woman behind the crown. These include where she was born a century ago; the palace where she lived and worked; the shops she favoured; the street where she joined the crowds on VE Day; the Royal Peculiar where she married, was crowned, and where her funeral service was held; and the great hammer-beam medieval hall where she lay in state – the destination of the longest, quietest queue in British history.
She came to the throne at a moment of profound change. An age of war and peace, glamour and austerity, radio giving way to television, and a monarchy suddenly living in full public view. Elizabeth II made the role her own, shaping the modern monarchy with quiet authority, restraint and unmistakable style.
Behind the pomp and ceremony was a woman with passions and pastimes, a devoted husband, a family, and a private life carefully protected from view. Claire brings that human story into focus, balancing the grand set-pieces with the off-camera moments that reveal character.
This is a walk through modern history and down memory lane. Past iconic landmarks and unforgettable moments. A life that began a century ago and became woven into the fabric of a nation.
Come and walk in the footsteps of a Queen – and discover the woman behind the crown.
CLAIRE AT THE MEETING POINT FOR THIS WALK

Brian Connor –
Claire was one of the most engaging hosts we had among during our holiday. Her enthusiasm for the subject matter kept us all interested, and it was clear that the entire (still new) walk was thoroughly researched. We thought that we knew a lot about Elizabeth II until we took this tour. Absolutely would recommend.

This was one of the best walks I have ever taken. Claire did tons of research, brought us to great places associated with the late Queen which are not the popular places that we all know, and imparted a lot of fascinating information. Perfect for any admirer of the late Queen!
