INTRODUCTION

Guided by a practising criminal defence lawyer, this small-group walk offers rare insider insight into London’s legal world.

London Walks guide Joanne, criminal defence lawyer, featured in customer review poster

Joanne, our criminal defence lawyer guide for the small-group Inns of Court walk.

Savour the tranquility of the Inns of Court, one of London’s most beautiful spots and home of the legal profession since the 15th century.

How are the Inns so closely connected to the colonisation – and ultimate independence – of the United States of America? Discover how Magna Carta 1215 is the foundation of the Rule of Law, Liberty and Human Rights.

Staple Inn on High Holborn, London, one of the last surviving Tudor half-timbered buildings

Staple Inn on High Holborn, one of London’s rare surviving Elizabethan timber-framed buildings and the meeting point for our small-group lawyer-guided Inns of Court walk.

Our commentary focuses on both the history of the area and the legal system and profession as it is today. We will include a visit to the spectacular gothic revival interior of the Royal Courts of Justice, a “cathedral of law!”

This is an insider’s take with the chance to get to grips with our legal system, ask as many questions as you like and to view court proceedings (subject to court listings).

I recently did the lawyer guided legal London walk with Joanne. It was absolutely fascinating to hear about the history of the legal system and Joanne’s extensive knowledge and anecdotes made it all the more enjoyable. We went to places that I would never have known existed and it really was like stepping back in time. We saw multiple beautiful buildings and lovely gardens! I would thoroughly recommend this tour, especially if your knowledge of our legal system comes solely from watching drama episodes on TV.
