Let’s deck the halls, lace up the boots, and step into the City of London at its most magical.

Because if Christmas is anywhere, it’s here. It’s in the air, it’s in the lights, it’s in the bones of this ancient Square Mile.

Your guide? Alison. A top-flight Blue Badge Guide. She’s so good she was tapped to be an instructor on the Blue Badge course itself. Which is a way of saying: this isn’t just a walk, it’s a masterclass in guiding. Only wrapped in tinsel and tied with a bow.

The timing? Perfect. Saturday, December 13th, 10.45 am. The City’s in full Christmas stride — the lights blazing, the shopfronts decked, the alleys aglow. And we’re starting at St Paul’s Underground Station (exit 2).

First stop: St Paul’s itself, dome shining like a Christmas bauble. The great cathedral that’s watched over centuries of carols, bells, and festive cheer.

From there, Alison leads you through the City’s secret alleyways, its tucked-away courts and candlelit corners.

This is Dickens territory – ghosts of A Christmas Carol hover at every turn. Roast chestnuts, mulled wine, the echo of “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen” carried on the cold air.

The old City is a patchwork of yuletide traditions: guild feasts, festive markets, evergreen boughs, wassailing songs.

And our destination? Leadenhall Market. That jewel-box of Victorian iron and glass, dressed in its Christmas finery. Twinkling lights overhead, a craft fair spilling across the cobbles, the scent of pine and mulled spice hanging in the air. It’s a finale Dickens himself would have relished.

So come along. Christmas in the City. Two icons – St Paul’s and Leadenhall – with secret alleys, seasonal sparkle, and Alison to weave it all together. The walk’s a stocking stuffed with delights.

Christmas in the City ends at Leadenhall Market for the Craft Fair.

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THE GUIDING

🎁 God bless us, every one.

Wonderful Christmas lights in the City walk with Alison today. She is a superb guide and led us through lots of lovely churchyards and secret alleys throughout the city. We saw some fabulous lights and heard all about our best loved Christmas traditions. Alison very cleverly wove stories of Charles Dickens and a Christmas Carol into places that we saw and visited. Alison is friendly and warm and a fantastic guide. This is my second walk I’ve done with her and she gets better every time! Thank you Alison and Merry Christmas!
