Guided by Margaret
Short version. Albertopolis, Alcazar & Alcoves in SW7.
Long version. Fairy dust. Seven no trumps. Slice after slice of unreality. Carousel. Green matrix. Cultural Core. Urbane village. Mews and views to die for. Tot it up how you will this is the least likely neighbourhood in an unlikely city. It's a cabinet of curiosities: campanile, President Kennedy's house, the SAS, 140 billion frozen peas, Darwin, a Russian cathedral, South American shrunken heads, the weird subway that inspired the greatest London poem ever, Shackleton and Livingstone, a quarter of a million butterflies, the Apollo 10 command module, meteorites, earthquake simulator, Crystal Palace – let alone those secret, painter's palette mews (which you'd never find off your own bat) and the most astonishing piece of "countryside" you'll ever see – woodland, fen, pond, chalk downland, meadow – right in the heart of London.
The Museum Island walk takes place at 2.30 pm on Saturday, March 9. To go on it meet Margaret just beyond the ticket barrier of South KensingtonTube.
"the unfailingly fascinating London Walks... If you can't find one [of their tours] that captures your fancy, maybe you really are tired of life." San Francisco Chronicle
"If you want to know London better, if you want to learn some things about the world's most cosmopolitan city that most people who spend their lives there never learn... I can think of no better investment than London Walks" The New York Times
If you can't make the regularly scheduled, just-turn-up, public Museum Island Walk do think about booking one as a private tour. If you go private you can have the Museum Island Walk – or any other London Walk – on a day and at a time that suits your convenience. We'll tailor it to your requirements. And – always – we go to great lengths to make sure the guide-walker(s) "fit" is well-nigh perfect. Ring Fiona or Noel or Mary on 020 7624 3978 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll set it up and make it happen for you. A private London Walk is good value for an individual or couple and sensational value for a group. And the clincher: a private London Walk makes an ideal group or educational or birthday party or office (team-building) or club outing. Or indeed a fab present – be it a birthday or anniversary or get-to-know-your-new neighbourhood gift or Christmas present or whatever. Merchandise schmerchandise (gift wrapped or not) – but giving someone an experience, now that's special. Memories make us rich.
