on a journey to discover how Lust, Avarice, Sloth, Envy, Gluttony, Anger and Pride, the Seven Deadly Sins, both corrupted the people of London and drove its history.
From riots to orgies, excess to industrial espionage, high modern buildings to hidden alleyways, losing inhibitions to losing one’s head and many more tales of the unknown.
In between each of the Seven Deadly Sins another story of lust, that binds the walk together.
At the end, outside the Tower of London, we will meet the biggest sinner of all, and I can promise you, it won’t be the person you’re thinking of…
Join me on my sinful walk through the City of London from one fortress to another, from the Bank of England to the Tower of London with lots of entertainment in between!

Last week my wife and I lucked onto a tour by Ulrike called the Seven Deadly Sins of Covent Garden. It was a fun master class on the history of Westminster and the rogues (and their women-of the night, for the most part) who made that history.
I say fun, because Ulrike has a puckish delivery style with plenty of ribald humour to go along with her well paced historical research….and research she has obviously done aplenty! Certainly a lot from books, but also by foot in the byways and little courts that populate the City, and that adds spice to the shenanigans that went on off the high streets.
And we got the same treat yesterday when we attended the Seven Deadly Sins of the City of London. Here again, Ulrike has done her work, with books and feet and even so far as university city libraries to identify (no spoiler alert here) her choice (we have to try and guess) the chief rogue and Sinner who inhabited each of her neighborhoods.
This is great fun and very informative. Highly recommended and thank you, Ulrike!

Absolutely delightful … thanks to Ulrike, our guide! As well as learning so much about certain characters’ connection with one or more of the 7 Deadly Sins, we heard trading tales from the coffee houses and the wives’ attitude to the coffee ruining their husbands; debauchery that happened in the taverns; and the spot where executions took place … and much more! Lots of humour and so well delivered.
