We board the London Canal Museum’s Long Tom for a mince-pie cruise along the Regent’s Canal and, best of all, straight through the great Islington Tunnel.

Nearly 1,000 yards long, dark, atmospheric and invisible from the streets above, the tunnel is one of those pieces of London you simply cannot experience on foot. There’s only one way through it. By boat.
So this is part walk, part history lesson, part Christmas outing and part voyage into subterranean London.
Along the way we’ll unravel the story of the canal, the neighbourhood it transformed and the people, horses, boats and cargoes that once made this one of London’s great working arteries.
There will also be an opportunity for a short visit to the London Canal Museum.
And yes, there are mince pies.
