The National Portrait Gallery in London holds the world’s most extensive collection of portraits. The gallery is currently closed for 3 years until Spring 2023 as it commences its biggest redevelopment since the current building opened in 1896.
But that needn’t stop you from exploring this wonderful collection! As part of our ongoing programme of virtual tours, London Walks is now bringing you an online virtual tour of some of the highlights of the collection!
Starting with the Tudors, we travel through 500 years of British history, meeting the incredible diversity of men and women who have helped to shape the nation.
Artists & actors, monarchs & mistresses, scientists & statesmen, politicians & pioneers -there is something for everyone at the National Portrait Gallery.
We’ll examine up close and personal how subjects and styles have evolved over the centuries and discover the stories behind the faces of some of our great (and occasionally not so good) Britons!
