Blackfriars to Fleet Street Pub Walk
Blackfriars underground station, London
|25 January 2020
We take the most amazing core sample of London’s history as we explore the banks of the River Fleet. On the East Bank, the Roman Wall and Blackfriars Monastery in the shadow of St Paul’s. On the West Bank, Fleet Street and Legal London. In aid of reflecting on our discoveries – and having a good natter about them – we put in at some of London’s most historic and beautiful pubs. Our time-span stretches from the Romans to the Present Day. Our discoveries range from Palaces, Monasteries, Roman Temples and the home of Katherine of Aragon to “the Street of Shame”, the best modernist building in the City, and Wren’s best Spire. It’s a feast of topography, history, architecture and literature. And for good measure, the best pubs in London! And it’s guided by the real deal, a genuine London expert, Kevin Flude, the emeritus Museum of London archaeologist.
