Archaeologist Kevin Flude curates and guides this Virtual Tour of the City of Bath. It’s both a picture postcard and behind the scenes (historically rich) look at the Georgian City that Jane Austen knew and lived in.
In 18th Century England, Bath was the most fashionable place to visit. Jane Austen’s mother and father were married there. She visited the City and lived in it for a few years immediately after her father retired.
Although she didn’t like it too much – probably far too trivial for her tastes! But, she also found it hard to write when she lived there. Nevertheless there was a lot of material to be collected from an extended sojourn in Bath which she deployed mainly on Northanger Abbey and Persuasion.
REPRISE
