Itinerary

Meeting: Meet Simon at 8.40 am at Paddington Station. He’ll be in front of the main ticket office – it’s near Platforms 1 & 2. He’ll be holding up copies of the famous white London Walks leaflet.

Getting to Bath: We travel by train as it’s fastly superior.*

*The train journey takes about 90 minutes so we arrive at about 10.30 am. The train journey is comfortable, you can stretch your legs and it’s picturesque. We roll through the lovely English countryside. No traffic jams. No motorway. We have a lot more time in Bath because we get there much faster. Were we to go by coach it would take almost three hours so we wouldn’t get there until mid-day. That’s half a day gone. No thanks. We want quality time not motorway time.

Our morning in Bath: Welcome to Bath! Highlights of our morning walking tour include: the River Avon, Pulteney Bridge, Guildhall, Guildhall Market, Bath City wall, the Theatre Royal, Cross Bath, Thermae Spa, Sally Lunn’s.

Lunch: You’ve seen a lot. Now it’s time to sit down and have some lunch and chat about what you’ve seen. Simon will make three or four really good recommendations about where to have lunch.

Our afternoon Walk: Highlights of our afternoon walking tour include; Bath Abbey, the Pump Room, the Upper Town architecture of John Wood, the Assembly Rooms, the Circus, the Royal Crescent, Queen’s Square. Congratulate yourself at walk’s end – you’ve done justice to the city of Bath and to yourself.

Free Time: There are any number of wonderful possibilities, including, of course, a visit to the Roman Baths. There’s the Victoria Art Gallery, the Fashion Museum, No. 1 Royal Crescent, the Holburne Museum and the Jane Austen Centre – you’re spoiled for choice. Or maybe you want to do some shopping or chill in a great pub or go for afternoon tea.

Royal Crescent Bath

Back to London: We arrive back in central London at about 6.30 pm. We of course travel by train again. And a nice touch, Simon makes the rounds on the way back. He’ll stop by your seat and have a chat, ask you if you have any questions, etc. It’s a quality experience. Take the hint. Go to Bath.

Reviews

“The Best of the very good – Day Trips of London Walks” This year I did several day trips with London Walks (Cambridge, Oxford, Bath, Stonehenge and Blenheim Palace) just to leave the city behind for a day. They were without exception great tours, professionally organised and entertaining. A perfect mix of facts, anecdotes and some free time to explore the places alone. Whether a tour succeeds depends primarily on the travel guide. If you travel with Simon, you are in safe hands. He has a lot of personality, is smart, very knowledgeable, funny and always makes sure that everyone has a good time. His excursions take you always off the beaten track and give background and substance to the area you visit. You will have a fantastic time, enjoy!” Sandra Huewels, Dusseldorf, Germany Date of visit: September 2019

“Love London Walks!” “We are repeat customers of London Walks having started taking walks about 20 years ago. Each time we visit London we fit in at least one, usually more. I’ve been on The Old Palace Quarter, The Tower of London, Bloomsbury, The Roman City, Oxford, Bath, Canterbury, Stonehenge and Salisbury, Jack the Ripper, and many more. Every one was lead by someone incredibly knowledgeable and excellent at managing the group and the details. `I cannot recommend these tours enough.”  Daphnewrld, Fremont, California, July 2018

“Still adore these tours”  “The explorer day trips out of London are fantastic, and so easy and affordable (you just show up at a train station and the guide gets a group discount on the train fare), especially the Cotswolds (any time of year), Salisbury & Stonehenge, Richmond & Hampton Court Palace, and Bath. I’ve been lucky enough to do a lot of sightseeing in the UK and Europe. I can assure you without a doubt that London Walks is the best experience for the best value you will get anywhere.”  Voicilapin, Phoenix, Arizona, June 2018

“Great walks…knowledgeable and entertaining…especially good for teens”  “This tour company does not disappoint…and I am sure they are right in saying that their guided day outings are very good…we made the mistake of booking a terrible bus tour to Bath and Stonehenge that had a groupon…I should’ve known better and gone for the London Walks guides…they were exceptionally efficient, brimming with knowledge and reasonably priced.”  ridingforchocolate, Munster, Indiana, October 2016

“Fun and Worth the Money”  We did four walks – 3 in London and one to Bath. It saves you money on entry fees and gives you a unique way of seeing the sights….We enjoyed the Bath walk….The recommended Pasty shop for lunch was so good, we grabbed one for the train ride back.”  AlbertaDaisy, Edmonton, Canada  August 2015

What the guide says

Bath is the world’s most perfect Georgian city. A graceful and airy miracle of Palladian grandeur, it’s a world of arcades and crescents, of Assembly Rooms and Pump Rooms. In the 18th-century it was the focus of the Age of Elegance. Today it’s our turn to savour the accreted delights of the slow centuries as we explore this exquisite place and its stunningly cosmopolitan Roman foundations, folded into a time-warp in the lovely Somerset hills. A trip to Bath is an event. European cities don’t come any more provocative. Or profound. Or poetic.
