Temple underground station, London
J M W Turner is arguably Britain’s most famous painter, known for his epic, mountainous landscapes, blazing sunsets and dramatic shipwrecks. He was also a Londoner born and bred, an unapologetic cockney who lived in and around the city his entire life. This walk explores Turner’s London. It takes in – these are just a few of the walk’s brushstrokes – Turner’s birthplace in a Covent Garden back-street, the site of the Royal Academy where he made his name, and several of his paintings. The walk concludes in the National Gallery before The Fighting Temeraire, voted Britain’s favourite painting. The walk is guided by Dr Matthew Plampin, an art historian and historical novelist. Matthew has a PhD from the Courtauld Institute of Art and has had four novels released by a major UK publisher, with a fifth – ‘Mrs Whistler’ – out this year.
The J M W Turner walk takes place at 10.45 am on xxxxxxxxx. Meet Matthew just outside the exit of TempleTube.
If you can’t make one of the regularly scheduled, just-turn-up, public Mountain Building & Meteorites in the City of London walks it can always be booked as a private tour. If you go private you can have the The J M W Turner Walk – Guided by an Art Historian & Historical Novelist walk – or any other London Walk – on a day and at a time that suits your convenience. We’ll tailor it to your requirements. Ring Fiona or Noel or Mary on 020 7624 3978 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll set it up and make it happen for you. A private London Walk – they’re good value for an individual or couple and sensational value for a group – makes an ideal group or educational or birthday party or office (team-building) or club outing.
A private London Walk makes a fab gift – be it a birthday or anniversary or Christmas present or whatever. Merchandise schmerchandise (gift wrapped or not) – but giving someone an experience, now that’s special. Memories make us rich.
