The Monument, London
Guided by Simon W.
Now sits expectation in the air (Henry V). Because we're venturing into the centre of the literary universe. Where English poetry began. And where, 200 yards upstream and 200 years later, the modern English drama was born. And that's just by way of setting the scene for William Shakespeare. The main act is finding the bits and pieces where some kind of reality can be touched across all those years. Places and artefacts where we can make contact with someone who disappeared 400 years ago. In short, you want Shakespeare in his habitat – you want his London, his cultural and physical landscape – this is where you come. And whom you come with. Guided by actor , Globe Theatre guide and award-winning Blue Badge guide Simon W. So come gallants, lads, ladies, hearts of gold! What, shall we be merry?
It all comes down to the guiding – but don't just take it from us.
N.B. the Shakespeare's London – The Bankside walk ends very near London Bridge station. And Monument Tube and Mansion House Tube are just a stroll and a bridge over the Thames away.
