Joyous celebration of London’s bells in sight and sound
Monday 17 May marks the final relaxation of all lockdown restrictions. To celebrate, this virtual tour rings visits a number of the most significant bells in London to hear their peal and rejoice with them. They include the joyful ‘oranges and lemons’ bells at St Clement Danes, the sombre, serious weight of Great Tom at St Paul’s, the modest simplicity of the restored bells of St James Garlickhythe, the ominous tinkle of the chime on Horseguard’s Parade and the ‘jolly boating weather’ toll at Fortnum and Mason. The narrative will give a full history of the bells. And doesn’t Big Ben return to us this year?
