Old Holland Park Village

Short version. Sweeping stuccoed terraces. Mews cottages. Red-brick mansions. Holland Park itself. Lots for the eye to get hold of here. Let alone the mind’s eye.

Long version. All of the above and (the remains of) Holland House. And Beckingham Palace (no, that’s not a typo or misprint). And the open-air theatre. And the Commonwealth Institute. And the biography of the neighbourhood – it’s as tasty as any in London. And the pedigree stretching back to Shakespeare’s day and age. Goes on.There’s that execution. There’s the Holland Park Circle. There’s the Luftwaffe’s contribution. There’s the IQ level of the residents – “in the Holland ward the proportion of adults qualified to degree level or higher is almost three times the national average.” There’s the close call JFK’s daughter had. It’s, well, a highlights reel of history. But finally we come back to this: because of the variety of public and private splendour in the park and its surrounding streets Holland Park Village is one of London’s loveliest place to walk. And live.
