The Cheapside Ward Walk

Bank tube station, London (exit 1, on the corner of Poultry and Princes Street)

Guided by Kevin

Short version: Archaeology, History and Literature. Archaeologist-guided.

Long version: The walk is an in depth exploration of the Cheapside. This is in many way’s London’s oldest and most prestigious road. Cheapside originates as a Roman Road that cuts through the heart of the modern City. It was the Oxford St. of medieval London full of shops and commercial businesses and the main road for processions and civic celebrations of all kinds. It had a part to play in the Peasants Revolt, the Reformation, The Civil War, the Blitz and the Big Bang and is now in the heart of the World’s greatest Financial Centre. We explore this and more in the first of our walks around the 25 Wards of the famous City of London.
