Dickens to Diamonds

Farringdon tube station, London

Guided by Rachel

Crossrail and 21st-century architecture are now transforming Farringdon station. But behind – backstage as it were – the original street pattern and fascinating historic tales of the area remain. Discover quirky furniture and housing in Clerkenwell before reaching London's original Little Italy, where Italian ice-cream vendors and organ grinders contributed to a colourful street life only a stone's throw from the narrow alleyways which inspired Fagin's Den and London's diamond quarter named after a favourite courtier of Elizabeth I. After stories of cinema, machine guns and gem heists you emerge into a street that was once part of Cambridgeshire. Go figure. Better yet, go on the walk. Guided by Rachel.

DICKENS TO DIAMONDS – THE PRACTICALS

The Dickens to Diamonds walk takes place at 10.45 am on xxxxxxxxx. The meeting point is just outside FarringdonTube.
