What could be jollier? It's 1827 and the streets are thronged with hundreds of costumed characters. Everywhere you look there are top hats and frock coats and bonnets and hooped skirts. Yes, it's Christmas time in Charles Dickens' hometown. Welcome to the best Dickens Christmas Festival in the world. And there's guaranteed snow! Let alone a parade and a candle-lit carol service. And not forgetting – our exploration – our walking tours – of Dickens' Rochester.
We go to the Dickens Christmas Festival on Saturday, December 1. Meet Simon – you won't have any problem spotting him because he'll be in Victorian costume, complete with top hat – at 9 am outside the National Rail Ticket Office (opposite Starbucks) of St. PancrasRailway Station.

"by far the most impressive series of walks that I have ever encountered are those offered by London Walks" Travel & Enjoy
"the unfailingly fascinating London Walks... If you can't find one [of their tours] that captures your fancy, maybe you really are tired of life." San Francisco Chronicle
If you can't make the regularly scheduled, just-turn-up, public first-Saturday-in-December Charles Dickens Christmas Festival tour do think about booking one as a private tour on the Sunday. (The Festival takes place on both days that weekend.) If you go private you can have the Charles Dickens Christmas Festival – or any other London Walk – at a time that suits your convenience. We'll tailor it to your requirements. Though our recommendation, of course, would be that we get down there early enough to have the whole shebang on that day. And – always with private London Walks and tours – we go to great lengths to make sure the guide-walker(s) "fit" is well-nigh perfect. Ring Fiona or Noel or Mary on 020 7624 3978 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll set it up and make it happen for you. A private London Walk – they're good value for an individual or couple and sensational value for a group – makes an ideal group or educational or birthday party or office (team-building) or club outing. Or indeed a fab present – be it a birthday or anniversary or get-to-know-your-new neighbourhood gift or Christmas present or whatever. Merchandise schmerchandise (gift wrapped or not) – but giving someone an experience, now that's special. Memories make us rich.
