Summer 2018 Programme

Date post added: 2 February 2018

First, here's a day-by-day, "at a glance" list of the differences between the Summer '18 London Walks programme – which kicks in on May 1 and runs through October 31 – and the current, Winter 2017-18 London Walks programme. By referring to it you can, for the most part, use the current, Winter programme as a guide to the Summer '18 programme. The exceptions that prove the rule are the handful of occasionals, "SPECIAL WALKS" – Halloween Season Walks, Ancient City Ceremony Walks, Thames Archaeology Walks, etc. – that are always the final 'trimmings' to the London Walks programme.

Monday's Walks

1. As always, there will, in the heart of the summer season (mid-May to mid-September) be a full programme of weekly Monday Day Trips: to Cambridge, Richmond & Hampton Court, etc.

2. Our Brunel's London Walk will, in the Summer '18 London Walks programme, run every Monday. At 10.40 am from Embankment Tube.

3. The Monday 10.45 am walk called Maritime London will be renamed. It'll be called Brunel's Thames Tunnel. Everything else about it stays the same. Starts at 10.45 am on Mondays from Bermondsey Tube.

And that's it. Those will be the only changes to the Monday schedule of London Walks come the Summer 2018 programme.

Tuesday's Walks

1. As always, we'll be running our Stonehenge & Salisbury Day Trip on Tuesdays. It'll take place at 8.45 am every Tuesday from May 15 through September 25. Meeting point is Waterloo Railway Station. Meet Richard by the main ticket office, which is directly opposite Platform 16.

2. The start time for the Tuesday Beatles In My Life walk will be adjusted by 20 minutes in the Summer 2018 London Walks programme. The Tuesday Beatles In My Life Walk will start at 11 am come the Summer programme. (It currently – in the Winter 2017-18 programme – starts at 11.20 am.)

3. The Plague, Fire, Hellfire, Revolution walk, which in the winter only takes place on the first Tuesday of every month, will in the Summer '18 programme take place every single Tuesday. It'll go every Tuesday afternoon at 2 pm from Tower Hill Tube.

And that's it. Those will be the only changes to the Tuesday schedule of London Walks come the Summer 2018 programme.

Wednesday's Walks

1. As always, we'll be running our Cotswolds & Oxford Day Trip on Wednesdays. It'll take place at 9.15 am every Wednesday from May 16 through October 3. Meeting point is Paddington Railway Station. Meet Richard by the main ticket office, which is by Platforms 1 & 2.

2. The 10 am Introduction to London walk will be renamed Hello London! come the Summer 2018 London Walks programme. Everything else about it stays the same. It'll still go at 10 am from exit 4 of Westminster Tube.

3. The Wednesday afternoon 2.30 pm Old Palace Quarter walk will be pulled. We won't be running it on Wednesday afternoon in the Summer 2018 programme. It will be replaced by a new walk called The Crown. Yes, it's very much based on the hugely successful, award-winning, utterly compelling, ongoing, "true [for the most part] life" Netflix bio-drama television series. It's being put together by four of the brightest stars in the London Walks constellation: Karen, Simon W., Delianne and Jan. What won't change is the meeting point and the meeting time. The Crown walk – like the Old Palace Quarter walk – will go at 2.30 pm every Wednesday from the Green Park exit (meet by the fountain) of Green Park Tube.

4. The Rock 'n' Roll London Pub Walk will come back into the Summer 2018 London Walks programme. It will take place at 7 pm every Wednesday from Tottenham Court Road Tube, exit 1.

And that's it. Those will be the only changes to the Wednesday schedule of London Walks come the Summer 2018 programme.

Thursday's Walks

Apart from the dates for the date-specific Magna Carta walk and the equally date-specific London Walks Runs there will be no changes to the Thursday schedule of London Walks come the Summer 2018 programme.

Friday's Walks

No changes at all to the Friday schedule of London Walks. The Summer 2018 Friday schedule of London Walks is identical to the current, Winter 2017-18 Friday schedule.

Saturday's Walks

1. As always, there will be a full schedule – a different one every Saturday – of Saturday Day Trips in the Summer London Walks programme.

2. The start time for the Saturday Beatles In My Life walk will be adjusted by 20 minutes in the Summer 2018 London Walks programme. The Saturday Beatles In My Life Walk will start at 11 am come the Summer programme. (It currently – in the Winter 2017-18 programme – starts at 11.20 am.)

3. In the Summer 2018 London Walks programme the Saturday afternoon Harry Potter on Location in LondonTown walk will start at 2.30 pm. In the current, Winter 2017-18 London Walk programme it starts at 2 pm. It's going to go half an hour later in the Summer programme. Other than that, no change at all to that walk.

4. In the Summer 2018 London Walks programme we'll be doing Rock 'n' Roll London at 2.30 pm on Saturday afternoons in the heart of the summer. It's two different Rock 'n' Roll London Walks. They'll alternate weekly.* On May 5, May 19, June 9, June 23, July 7 and July 21 it'll be The Chelsea Rock 'n' Roll London Walk. It'll go, at 2.30 pm, from Sloane Square Tube. On May 12, May 26, June 16, June 30, July 14 and July 28 we'll be doing Rock 'n' Roll London. It'll go from exit 1 of Tottenham Court Road Tube. *The one Saturday when there won't be a Rock 'n' Roll London stroll is June 2.

5. The Hampstead Village Pub Walk will take place at 7 pm every Saturday evening. It goes from Hampstead Tube.

And that's it. Those will be the only changes to the Saturday schedule of London Walks come the Summer 2018 programme.

Sunday's Walks

1. As always, in the Summer programme we'll be making lots of Sunday Day Trips to the Cotswolds. We'll go to the Cotswolds on June 3, June 17, July 1, July 15, July 29, August 12, August 26, September 9 and September 23. The meeting time is 9 am. The meeting point is by the main ticket office – it's near PLatforms 1 and 2 – of Paddington Railway Station.

2. The Sunday at 10 am Introduction to London walk will be renamed Hello London! come the Summer 2018 London Walks programme. Everything else about it stays the same. It'll still go at 10 am from exit 4 of Westminster Tube.

3. The Sunday 10.45 am walk called Maritime London will be renamed. It'll be called Brunel's Thames Tunnel. Everything else about it stays the same. Starts at 10.45 am on Sundays from Bermondsey Tube.

4. In the Summer 2018 London Walks programme the Sunday afternoon Harry Potter Film Locations in the City walk will start at 2.30 pm. In the current, Winter 2017-18 London Walk programme it starts at 2 pm. It's going to go half an hour later in the Summer programme. Other than that, no change at all to that walk.

5. We might repeat Wednesday's The Crown walk on Sundays. We haven't decided yet. Watch this space.

And that's it. Those will be the only changes to the Sunday schedule of London Walks come the Summer 2018 programme.

Ok, the At-a-Glance "portfolio" taken care of, here's the full, on-going, out-reeling Summer 2018 London Walks programme "album."

INTRO

It's taking shape. First step, always, is to get the Tour du Jour walks sorted. We're 80 percent of the way there with them. From today I'll start putting the ones that are down and dusted up here on the website. On their respective dates but also on a work-in-progress list here on this Latest News page. Those of you who are Tour du Jour aficionados can monitor the baby's delivery in real time!

Once the Tour du Jour walks are all in place I'll move on to the Day Trips strand of the programme (though a lot of that is already up here on the Mothership (www.walks.com).

Then it'll be on to the "SPECIALS."

And that'll be it. Down the runway and take-off (on May 1).

Only thing to add is that for this programme – this seems to happen, on average, once every three or so years – this remarkable group of guides have had one of their periodic bursts of astonishing creativity. There are a good few really exciting new walks coming into this upcoming – Summer 2018 – London Walks programme.
