Bath

Date post added: 7 August 2017

Silk purse? Or a sow's ear? It's your call.

You want a silk purse – an elite, high quality, very different trip to Bath – you come with us.

To go on the Saturday, August 26 Bath trip meet Richard – the Platonic ideal of a guide, he of the honey'd voice, warmth, wit and wisdom – at 8.45 am by the main ticket office (it's near Platforms 1 & 2) of Paddington Railway Station.

Can't make the August 26 trip? We'll also be going there on September 9 and September 30. Click here for the full description (including images) and all the particulars of this very special Day Trip.

Short version: Bath – a scoop of pure honey in a golden bowl.

Long version: Bath – the world's most perfect Georgian city. A graceful and airy miracle of Palladian grandeur, it's a world of arcades and crescents, of Assembly Rooms and Pump Rooms. In the 18th-century it was the focus of the Age of Elegance. Today it's our turn to savour the accreted delights of the slow centuries as we explore this exquisite place and its stunningly cosmopolitan Roman foundations, folded into a time-warp in the lovely Somerset hills. A trip to Bath is an event. European cities don't come any more provocative. Or profound. Or poetic. N.B. we'll be back in central London at approximately 6.15 pm.
