THE OLD PALACE QUARTER -
they don't make 'em like this anymore

After about ten years of regular trips to London, with at least two London Walks each time, I felt it was time for me to offer my thanks and great appreciation to you! I LOVE London Walks! Just last week, I went on the "Old Palace Quarter" Walk with Angela. With her great enthusiasm and obvious love of history, knowledge, humor, and that voice of hers, I found myself immersed in the history of the area all over again. And as an aside - what a wonderful, wonderful surprise to realize that I was in the presence of one of my all-time favorite actresses. Although it has been many years since I have seen Angela in anything, as I am from the USA, it was a joy to be able to tell her how magnificent I thought - and still think - her work was. When I was a teenager, it was her portrayal of Sylvia Pankhurst that inspired me to begin a study of women's history, which in turn led me to my vocation of Episcopal (Anglican) priest - as I thought more seriously about the inroads women had made and continue to make in our society. And it is obvious after having Angela as a guide that she is still inspiring people with a deep love of history and an understanding of the human condition. Angela, thank you so much!!

And the same to you all. Can't wait to be back!

Today was a cold, grey autumn morning but about 30 of us met Angela outside Green Park station. She made the area come to life, pointed out details it would be easy to miss, and had amusing stories to keep us from noticing the cold. Hearing the lunchtime recital pianist practising in St James Piccadilly was a beautiful bonus. I am only sorry that I haven't tried these walks before. I would recommend them to both visitors and locals.

I have been meaning to go on a London Walk for a long time, especially since I live in the area. Now I wish I hadn't waited so long. This tour was wonderful. David guided it as Angela was not available. He was full of the most amazing, interesting information, all delivered with a quirky sense of humour! What made the tour really special for me is that I used to work in St James's for years, but every day I had walked past the little alleyways and secret courtyards without even knowing they were there. Fascinating. I am already planning my next walk!

Angela wasn´t avilable for this walk, but Peter was a more than outstanding substitute! Great knowledge and wonderful stories. It was my first walk and opened my appetite for many more!
