OLD KENSINGTON - London’s Royal Village

Behind every window or door in any old street there is a story to be told. If only the walls could speak or we could transform ourselves back in time. We cant of course but this like many of the walks is perhaps the next best thing. What is simply a pretty street or building suddenly becomes alive as the guide shares his wonderful knowledge with us. Most people who visit kensington only visit certain buildings and go through the high street but this takes you around the corner to the place you never need to go to but you will be glad you did. Our guide David is truly an incredible man and with the smile of Phil Silvers you know he simply loves this stuff. A day later and back home I wish I could do it all again.

Andy,

David here. Thoughtful of you in every respect. Thoughtful comment. And thoughtful of you to have gone to the trouble of lobbing it our way. Much appreciated. And as for Phil Silvers – aka Sergeant Ernie Bilko – he's one of my all time favourites. The great tragedy of my existence these last 20 years is that I haven't been able to dredge up a copy (or a rebroadcast) of the episode about the chimp, Private Harry [sic] Speakup. The funniest one of them all, and that's really saying something.

This is an absolutely charming couple of hours off the beaten track. I distinctly got the feeling of the difference between what I might normally see as a tourist and what is actually there to discover, and how history was all around. Adam is as personable, knowleadgable and entertaining a guide as one would wish, and knows how to tell a good story. I was also impressed by the fact that I got to witness how he continues to collect information--on our walk two new little gems where unearthed by participants in the group. This was my first walk with London Walks but definitely not the last. On my next trip to London, I shall go on several more. It's the beginning of a beautiful friendship with a terrific company.

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the "Old Kensington" walk that myself and my work colleagues did on Thursday 20th of December with Adam.

We all work in the Archives at the Houses of Parliament and this was our Xams work party! We all thought the walk was excellent, and Adam was fascinating and informative in his commentary. He really took us off the beaten track and despite having been to High Street Kensington dozens of times I had no idea that those places existed.

Thanks to Adam for making the walk so informative despite the awful cold.

I will definately be joining you again for more walks in the future.

Keep up the good work.

Well... David knows it all. He knows everything about this walk, everything we want to know and everything about having a good time. He seems to have as much fun as we do walking down the loveliest streets I´ve ever seen!
