Donna R. Hecht - Claremont, California July 2007 Not for the London Walks beginner. There are lots of sexier walks. However, this walk really filled in a blank spot in my knowledge of London. Clerkenwell is so close to St. Paul's, and yet so hidden away. I can't believe I'd missed it all these years! It was exciting to see the actual "Clerks' Well" and to hear about when the Fleet River exploded.
Jean is clearly knowledgeable and experienced. I'd certainly go on another walk with her. She acted out a scene from Oliver Twist for us, playing all of the parts. (Great tiny voice for little Oliver!)
All in all, a laid-back but lovely walk. |

Heather - now london ( formerly Honolulu) May 2007 This is perhaps one of my favourite walks, perhaps as it is my neighbourhood!! When the walk ends there are loads of lovely places to have a bite or a drink. Ask the guide to direct you to Smithfields market, cross through there for loads of pubs whose patrons spill out onto the street for a post work pint. Vinoteca on St Johns St is a lovely place for a glass of wine, Kurz and lang is an authentic German sausage place- on the corner where St Johns and Cowcross meet. the area is very lively as the workday ends!
