Short read: “There are places I’ll remember all my life”

Long read: So sang the Beatles in one of their most evocative songs. Many of those places are in the “London Town” of this walk. So get back with Richard P. “the Pied Piper of Beatlemania” –  to the film locations for A Hard Day’s Night and Help, the registry office where two of the Fabs got married, and the apartment immortalised by Ringo, John and Yoko. We’ll also see the house where Paul lived with his glamorous girlfriend, actress Jane Asher. Those were the days… for it was in that house that John and Paul wrote I want to hold your hand. To cap it all: the legendary Abbey Road studios and crosswalk. As the Toronto Globe and Mail said of the walk, “A splendid time is guaranteed for all.” “So let me introduce to you, the one and only… Richard P., the 6th Beatle.”

THE BEATLES “IN MY LIFE” – THE PRACTICALS

The Beatles ‘In My Life’ walk takes place at 11 am every Tuesday.

The meeting point for The Beatles ‘In My Life’ walk is Marylebone   Tube Stop. The meeting point is outside the main archway entrance (see the photo below) of Marylebone Railway Station.  N.B We make a short Tube journey to Abbey Road so a Day Travel Card or Oyster Card is recommended. The Beatles ‘In My Life’ walk ends at Abbey Road Studios, a short stroll from St. John’s Wood Tube Stop.

The  Saturday Beatles “In My Life” walk is just one set in the London Walks popular music gig. Our other Beatles walk – The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour – explores a different part of “Beatles London.” The Magical Mystery Tour goes at 11 am every Sunday (year-round) and at 11 am every Thursday (year-round).  The meeting point for the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour is just outside exit 1 of Tottenham Court Road Tube.

And Adam’s Beatlemania walk comes up occasionally both as a Special and as a Virtual Tour.

And we’ve got Rock ‘n’ Roll London. It goes year-round at 2 pm every Friday. The meeting point for the Friday Rock ‘n’ Roll London walk is just outside exit 1 of Tottenham Court Road [Tube_roundel]Tube.

Finally, Adam does a wide repertory of Special Tours and Virtual Tours that range right across Musical London. The Kinks, Musical Covent Garden, Musical Kensington, Bob Dylan in London, etc. Do a search for “Adam” and “Musical” to bring them up.

LONDON WALKS REVIEWS

“RICHARD Porter is the smartest man in Britain – at least when it comes to The Beatles. In reality, considering the Sixties pop scene was a hotbed of sex and psychedelic drugs, he probably knows more about The Beatles than the remaining members of the Fab Four can remember themselves.” Brian Crisp National Travel Editor, Escape

“When it comes to possessing a thorough knowledge of the movements of the Beatles, there are few who can surpass Richard Porter. Dubbed the “Beatles Brain of Britain,” his personal kinship with John, Paul, George and Ringo makes the London tours he conducts for London Walks some of the most popular in the city. After more than 20 years and guiding around 150,000 visitors, Richard’s lead is the one to heed. His personal knowledge adds an element of credibility that is unavailable elsewhere.”  USA Today

“The walls in front of the famous studios are smeared with a million cliches, long-standing graffiti proclaiming the fans’ undying love. Here, several years ago, Paul McCartney appeared while Porter was doing his tour. Springing cheerily from his limo, Paul consorted with the fans before vamoosing to cut his album. Porter had captured the moment. Snap! We are agog. For there it is: Paul looking cherubic. As does Porter, standing before us now, irrepressible, and so likable that you wish you could set him to music. Will lightning strike twice? Will a Beatle casually materialise? But Porter is talking again, more facts, more memorabilia. Yeah, yeah, yeah.” Traveller

“London Walks puts you into the hands of an expert on the particular area and topic of a tour…”  The New York Times

“The original and best – there are several companies offering walking tours of London but London Walks (London’s oldest) is easily the pick of the bunch”   London, Cadogan Guide

Best Beatles Walk  “If you are a Beatles fan then you will love touring London with Richard P! My family had the pleasure of joining Richard on the Beatles “In My Life” walk and enjoyed every moment. The tour is very informative and hits many great spots such as John and Yoko’s home, film locations for Beatles movies, and ends at Abbey Road. Richard is knowledgeable, projects well so you can hear every word he says, and takes great care to make sure the tour stays safe and together when walking down the streets of London. I want to go back to London just to experience more tours with this company!”  Pkid71 Saginaw, Michigan

Richard is of course “the Pied Piper of Beatlemania.”  But “the 6th Beatle” shares top billing with co-star Beatles Walks colleagues: musician-guide Adam – who performs a live on-a-famous-stage, 20-minute set on his Rock ‘n’ Roll London Pub WalkBeatles era top model and latter-day London Walks guide Desiree, who knew them; actor Andy who plays a mean guitar; and Liverpool-born RSC actor Steve, whose impersonation of John Lennon is a resurrection!

Richard facilitated an amazing tour! His knowledge, detail, and humor made every minute fascinating. Highly recommend–will attend again!

  2. Brandi D

The half day walking tour of The Beatles was wonderful! Adam was so good and the tour was so interesting! We enjoyed all of the stops along the tour and finishing at Abbey Road. Thank you Adam!

  3. Anne

The Beatles In My Life Tour with Adam was amazing. I was on holiday in London with my parents and as a new Beatles fan, I loved discovering all the facts Adam had ready. We visited all sorts of Beatles related buildings and places which were all extremely interesting, but Adam’s charm made it even better. Thanks a lot for the wonderful experience!

  4. Heike

We absolutely loved the Beatles Walking Tour. Richard Porter has such a vast knowledge of the band and took us to many important spots in Marleybone. Later, we went to the iconic Abbey Road, where he also shared some anecdotes. It was our first guided tour (there were three of us), and we were thrilled. I treated myself to the tour for my birthday and had a fantastic day. Since Richard has also written a book about the Beatles, we bought it at the Beatles Coffee Shop near the Underground and enjoyed browsing through it! It was a wonderful morning.

  5. Marie

Even mega fans will learn something new about the Beatles.
Top notch! It was a great tour, and a wonderful way to start our trip. We learned so much
about the Beatles and can’t wait to go home and watch the films that were covered as part
of the tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and fun. Overall a great experience.

  6. Anne

Richard has a wonderful way of telling stories. He kept everyone entertained and we learned so much. He has a great sense of humor and knows more about the Beatles than probably the Beatles did themselves. Highly recommend

  7. Terri M.

Richard could be the missing fifth Beatle. He knows so much about the world’s favorite ‘60s band. I am so glad that I took this tour and didn’t get run over trying to stage the Beatles’ famous Abbey Road album cover (when we visited Abbey Road Studios). You’ll learn so much about the Beatles’ early days as a band. Book this tour!

  8. Kate

Our family thoroughly enjoyed the “In My Life” Beatles tour. Jon was a fantastic guide. Very knowledgeable and took us to some very cool/obscure locations! He even stumped my Beatles-obsessed daughter more than once – quite a feat! 🙂 We hope to return for another tour with Jon in the future.

  9. Lilie

It was wonderful, Richard knows so much about the Beatles. It was a pleasure meeting him again. It was our second tour with him. Thank you.

  10. Matt

It was quite an amazing and fulfilling tour. Richard was clearly an expert on the subject matter. It was a pleasure listening to him impart his knowledge to us. The stories coupled with the visuals were very entertaining. I recommend this tour to anyone who has ever had an affinity for The Beatles on any level. This tour was great for all ages. It kept my 11 year old engaged the whole time. Highly recommended.
