Camellias, daffodils, cherry blossom, tulips. A floral scene to inspire watercolours. Birdsong and church bells, sounds to inspire poetry. This is not the Weald of Kent, though you can see it in the distance as you are so high up. It is Hampstead Village on Sunday 5th April 2009. I saw all this, plus the homes of those very artists and poets. You need your good walking shoes; it’s hilly, with tiny roads where cars hardly venture. But you will be rewarded with fabulous architecture, both very old and contemporary, and a walk on the heath, plus the usual, knowledgeable and fun commentary from the guide. It’s a fabulous walk and not one to be missed, especially this time of year. I enjoyed it immensely.
I did this walk on Sunday morning and after lunch, went on to do the Little Venice Walk. You can catch the 46 bus all the way from Hampstead Village to Warwick Avenue tube where that tour starts. Dead easy, quick and much nicer than going Underground. I caught my bus from bus-stop C in Fitzwilliam avenue right around the corner from where the Hampstead tour finishes. My only regret? I didn't take a camera!
